BLACK GIRL JOY A Superstar Spotlight With Style ICON: Brandi Wynn

What is it about sophistication that you find alluring? While the company of pretty, lovely things has been found enjoyable throughout the ages; there is something to be said about refinement. Someone or something that is undeniably beauteous, yet full of charismatic taste that instantly makes life feel as effervescent as a falling star. Looking at life through rose coloured glasses where average isn’t an option, or even a thought, is perhaps the greatest reason why sophistication holds such a tender space in our sartorial hearts! Miss. Brandi Wynn is just one of those people; even though we have not personally met I feel immensely connected to her and her vision for life. She is brimming with talent and leadership. Two traits that the entire globe needs more of! Whether she is trying a new hairstyle or innovating a viral social media fashion trend. Brandi effortlessly adds that je ne sais quoi trademark that truly ensures that she is dictating the trends; not just following them. She connects people with her signature ability to elevate any experience. When this quarantine has ceased I truly hope to meet and collaborate with Brandi, for now please accept my genuine honour and distinct privilege in introducing Miss. Brandi Wynn to you… Here she is!

“Hi, my name is Brandi Wynn!”

“I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  I relocated to Los Angeles, California a year ago to pursue my dreams in the beauty industry at FIDM! Since the pandemic occurred, I spent a short period of time reconnecting with family and loved ones in my hometown. Currently, I am back in LA, and I’ve recently started my summer quarter at FIDM. When I’m not in class, I am constantly creating content for my YouTube and Instagram!”

What is your dream job?

Brandi Wynn: “My ultimate dream job is to become an entrepreneur. Creating my own sustainable beauty and skincare brand is my biggest goal. I would also like to become a motivational speaker to young women and men, in order to inspire them to manifest and create the life that God truly wants for them.”

How would you describe your personal style?

Brandi Wynn: “I would describe my personal style as BOLD, bright, and comfortable! I incorporate a lot of bright colors in my wardrobe such as light greens, pinks, and yellows to accentuate my dark skin complexion. Anything that is over-the-top or flashy is what I naturally gravitate towards. In high school I would always be considered the overdressed friend and I would secretly hate it. As an adult now, I LOVE IT and I play it to my advantage!”

How has the pandemic influenced your style?

Brandi Wynn: “Since the pandemic has occurred, my wardrobe has consisted of more tracksuits and sneakers than I’d like to admit! But, I’m not mad at it! I have truly been inspired by the various Instagram and social media bloggers who have taken street style to a new level of sophistication and style. Although there are days where I could care less about my outfits, my online courses at FIDM have really motivated me to put a little more effort in my appearance for all of my Zoom calls!”

What are you wearing more of?

Brandi Wynn: “I have been gravitating a lot towards tie dye. Pastels, pinks, and baby blues have truly put me in the best mood.”

What’s the one thing you must add to your wardrobe now?

Brandi Wynn: “One thing that I’ve been wanting in my wardrobe is a versatile wrap top. Although summer is coming to a close, I’d still want to live out my California girl fantasy with a cute wrap top, some denim shorts with the top down cruising down the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway!)”

You are always so confident and vivacious, what advice do you have for someone looking to harness their own energy during difficult times, and especially now?

Brandi Wynn: “Wow, thank you so much! Although it may not seem like it, my confidence in myself is something that I haven’t always had. When I was a young child I always had a constant struggle with my identity and even self-acceptance. As I have gotten older, I’ve come to realize that my very existence here on earth is a gift that so many are not given. There are a great deal of my innocent black brothers and sisters that never make it to this point of life, and I want to make them and my countless ancestors proud. Of course, I have days where I do feel low, or where I’m not feeling myself. The good days truly outweigh the bad, and for that I am truly so grateful!”

What should someone do to be more confident in a saturated work place/career?

Brandi Wynn: “In today’s society, comparison seems to be at every corner you turn. When you go on Instagram you see a platform flooded with so many people living and leading such incredible lives. At first glance, they seem to have everything; the lifestyle, the money, the cars, and the relationships. It can all seem as though life is passing you by. It seems like every day there is another social media success story of a micro influencer turned millionaire overnight. Seeing these success stories as a micro influencer such as myself, can be very discouraging. Being that I would like to make social media my full time job, I often compare myself to others successes which is often draining and negative.  Every day I find it vital to operate from a state of gratitude. Whether it’s making a list when I first wake up featuring all of the things that I appreciate in my life, or doing a 15-minute mediation. Having these spiritual practices to fall on reminds me that my individuality is something that no one else has. No one can do me how I do me. No one will ever be me, have the same work ethic as me, or style of creativity!”

What does <3Black Girl Joy<3 mean to you personally?

Brandi Wynn: “To me, Black Girl Joy means having an impenetrable spirit of happiness that no one or thing could ever take away. It doesn’t mean that bad things won’t occur but in spite of the ebbs and flows of life, I will carry the spirit of ‘bounce back’ in my heart. Meaning that if life tries to knock me down, or if I am not feeling that I am being seen the way that I want to be seen black girl joy reminds me that if nobody sees me, I see myself.”

How has the Black Lives Matter / BLM movement impacted your worldview?

Brandi Wynn: “The Black Lives Matter movement has given me the affirmation and confirmation that our world still has so much more to improve on. Although the black community has come very far, we still are held back in so many areas that God can only rectify.”

What does a socially just society look like in America?

Brandi Wynn: “A socially just society in my opinion, is holding others accountable for their behavior while still allowing them to have the space to grow and learn from their mistakes.”

How can we reform the police?

Brandi Wynn: “As a society, we must take the time to educate the police on the injustices that constantly threaten the black community. Educating officers on proper and safe protocol in approaching different ethnicities is equally important to any other training they get while on the force.”

What advice do you have for allies?

Brandi Wynn: “Support your black friends 365, 24/7. Not just one day with a black box and a hashtag. Listen intently and with action.  Support should come willingly without it being a trending topic. This is something that will truly uplift the black community.”

!AUGUST IS BLACK BUSINESS MONTH! Let’s ALL celebrate and SHOP OUR VALUES!

Share with us your favourite black owned brands please!

Brandi Wynn: “Right now, I love the company shopmattebrand which is a black owned clothing line that sells very innovative and stylish clothing.”

What are your favourite community organizations?

Brandi Wynn:My favorite community organizations would be BeyGood by Beyonce and blackgirlsrock. I truly value these organizations for their stance in uplifting and bringing light to so many melanated voices across the world. Another community organization that I like is actually an Instagram page by the name of @blackgirlsintraderjoes. @Blackgirlsintraderjoes is an Instagram page developed by black women to help navigate, encourage, validate black women to shop alternatively at a typically white occupied grocery store.”

How do you manifest your goals in your life?

Brandi Wynn: “For me, I go about manifesting from a state of gratitude. What you tend to think about and thank about, you bring about. Being at a state of flow and ease allows amazing things to enter into your life!”

What advice do you have for someone interested in manifesting?

Brandi Wynn: “My advice for anyone who is trying to manifest is to start where you are. Regardless of where that may be spirituality or emotionally, we all have to start from somewhere. Having a belief system to stand on also helps greatly.”

Who are your inspirations in life / style icons? Why?

Brandi Wynn: “One of my biggest inspirations is Beyoncé. Mainly being that she is one of the hardest working black female artists that continues to break barriers for not just me, but so many other beautiful women across the globe. When I feel like I don’t belong or insecure, her music brings me a sense of peace that is indescribable.”

Anything else you would like to add?

Brandi Wynn: “I want to personally thank you for giving me this opportunity to highlight my voice during a time where I often feel like as though I am drowning. I truly appreciate your time and questions and giving me the space to be truly and authentically myself. If anyone would like to follow my journey my Instagram account is BrandiiWynn. I also have a YouTube channel under the name BrandiWynn where I post lifestyle, beauty and fashion content! Again, thank you so much for this opportunity and I hope to speak to you all again very soon!”
