7 Ways To Instantly Look More Stylish
Raise your hand… or glass… if you’re dreaming up ways to refine or revamp your style EVEN in the midst of this pandemic! Have you cleaned out your closet more than once? Cut some clothing up for a DIY or DIY face mask? Posted some of said items for sale online? Maybe even sent some off for donation? All while notating what your capsule wardrobe will consist of, since there is finally much more room? Same. I’ve even perused the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale lusting over the discounts available for preview. With that being said, I have consciously been practicing a minimal waste lifestyle, even with my wardrobe. I feel that building a more impactful and meaningful wardrobe full of items that transcend the current trends are what interest me the most. What interests you the most about the development of your personal style? What items are you craving to add to your wardrobe now? How has the pandemic impacted your style?
One thing I think we can all agree upon is looking and feeling our most stylish. Our most expressive self. Here are 7 of my golden style rules for looking more STYLISH/ CHIC / LUXE!! With some photographic examples of items you can shop or just pin for later inspo! These style rules are what have worked for me, but remember rules can be broken! Break them like an artist if heightened maximalism is more your thing! I am here for it, and you!
1: If you like it then you should put a HAT on it
Seriously, hats are so underrated! Think of any of your go-to style icons, don’t they don a hat or two every few posts? Are they known for a signature hat style in particular? OF COURSE they are! You can also thrift hats so easily as well, so this is an economic and stylish way to elevate any ensemble, especially casual ones!
2: Add a jacket
Statement jackets are my personal favourite, you should really give them a try if you haven’t already. Whether that’s in a bold colour, print, or texture it will polish off your look and speak for itself. Not to mention they’re always fabulous conversation starters. So, layer on a jacket — wear it as a cape, or tie it around your waist! Figure out what makes you feel the most stylish and go from there. Authenticity is KEY!
3. Keep your colour palette cohesive or colour match at least 2 items
A lot of people feel that monochromatic looks are ultra chic — I say it depends on the tones. Nudes or earthy tones always look great when paired from head to toe, but to ensure that you don’t have too much going on, try to match your hat to your bag, or your shoes to your hat and so on. Cohesion really is the name of the game for simple yet effective personal style!
4. Keep jewelry MEANINGFUL
When it comes to jewelry, less is often more. Wear your jewelry with INTENTION! When dressing ask yourself, would you like the jewelry to be the focal point or your clothing?
When assessing your outfit in the mirror, hold up your jewelry or wear it and stand a couple of feet back. Look to see if the jewelry enhances your vision or not!
5. Don’t be afraid to play with EMPHASIS
Let me say this once more, for emphasis of course…
Don’t be afraid to play with emphasis, whether that’s a balloon sleeve shirt with skinny jeans, or wide leg paper bag pants and a crop top. Emphasizing one clothing item as a focal point will always do wonders!
6. Find a tailor
Everything should fit your body type, or the way you want your figure to look, especially with blazers/jackets! You want suiting to fit like a glove, always! (Nordstrom Local has fabulous services if you’re looking for alterations on-the-go!)
7. Invest in designer handbags
They don’t have to be brand new either!! Go THRIFTING, you will be amazed at how many designer handbags are waiting to be unearthed at thrift shops AROUND THE GLOBE! There are also so many luxury resell retailers that authenticate their stock! (Have you heard of The Real Real or Re Bag?) Designer handbags hardly ever decrease in value, and you can easily resell them in order to upgrade!
