Happy Thanksgiving Eve —
to all who are celebrating this week/weekend, and MORE LIFE to everyone else the world, over! Gratitude truly is the attitude and I hope that there are many people and things in your life to be grateful for.
I am especially grateful for my pup Alpha (@alphawaang) and that my sister Veronica @veronicawangco / @realveronicawang is visiting for the holidays. Presently, we are preparing some of the side dishes that we will devour tomorrow alongside tofurkey (for me), prime rib, chicken, and beef ribs for the other folks. We decided against turkey as there didn’t seem to be as much of a demand for it. (Although as a pescatarian, it is the one animal protein that I do miss… especially those Winter’s Turkeys in Alberta, Canada… more on that some other time.)
Regardless of whether or not you are celebrating or have celebrated Thanksgiving this year (here’s to you, Canadians who celebrate in October…) What are you grateful for this year? How can you express that gratitude right now? Comment or reach out on socials! Let’s chat!
Another thing that I am grateful for is my visual communications/fashion styling class this semester. Professor Camila is the educator for this class and she deserves her own Masterclass/Ted Talk (tremendously grateful for her also). She is such an inspiration and invigorates all of her students to figure out how to get their foot in the door and how many jobs there actually are in the fashion and entertainment industries. Professor Camila also started an Instagram page called @the.stylingassistant to help local student-creatives network and ultimately find successful gigs. Thank you, Professor Camila, for showing all of us that we are capable and our dreams are always possible. Bless you!
One of my favourite assignments this semester was shooting an Warby Parker x Nordstrom-inspired commercial photoshoot.
Tapping into the culture of both Warby Parker and Nordstrom through research and communicating it visually with a concept that strategically places both brands in the same place was exciting and made me feel as if I was working for Warby Parker and Nordstrom. Oftentimes, we prefer to style brands that we connect to as a consumer, and while I appreciate both brands (I shop at both), it was interesting to understand who their target consumer is and what would resonate with them. I am very pleased with the results.
