As I write this post, I am genuinely brimming with unbridled love and revere for Patricia, the powerhouse woman behind Blue Lilly Pad. If you’ve watched my “Babe Bus Youtube Video” or really any of my Instagram stories, you will have been acquainted with Patricia or P, as I like to call her. Patricia has a professional background in social work and dedicates herself to supporting at-risk youth. She started her blog and Instagram five years ago, under the moniker Blue Lilly Pad as a creative outlet. She has a heart of gold and is always willing to help people, especially those who are starting out online. When I first met Patricia I had so many questions on the world of digital marketing and social media! She passed along a wealth of knowledge and resources that really encouraged me to forge my own path and for that I am eternally grateful. I hope that this spotlight on Patricia encourages you to go for your dreams and express yourself! Patricia always reminds others that what they have to offer has merit and to accept ourselves for who we are. It is a true honour to have her here, as she is definitely a one woman show with the most charming family, full of taste and talent. It is my sincere pleasure to formally introduce you to Mrs. Patricia Mitchell!

Tell us about yourself!

BlueLillyPad: “ My name is Patricia and I am a blogger for BlueLillyPad. I am in my late 30’s, I am Salvadorian-American, and I have been married for 18 years and have a teenage daughter who is 15 years old. I love fashion and anything skincare!”

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

BlueLillyPad: “One might be surprised to learn that Brian McKnight sang my wedding song to me, that my husband sang on our wedding day. One Love by Commissioned.”

How has the pandemic and/or current state of the world influenced your personal style?

BlueLillyPad: “ I feel that the pandemic has enhanced my love of wearing robes. I wear them more now, after work and on my days off. Due to the pandemic, I was able to be home for 3 weeks to help my daughter be on task with school, and I purchased 4 new robes. I love them so much!”

When did you realize that you were truly in tune with your own sense of style?

BlueLillyPad: “A memory of me at the age of 5, comes to mind. I had two braids with ribbons and flowers. I was in my room organizing my closet with all of my dresses, skirts, pants and pjs. I had a love for pointy flat shoes. I remember I had pink, red, black, white, yellow and even blue. I also had some “L.A. Gear” sneakers. I remember as a child that it would bring me so much joy to coordinate my clothes for school, and even wearing my mom’s high heels with my dad’s men shirts as dresses with a hat.”

How can someone figure out what their style is and step away from “trends?”

BlueLillyPad: “I think what is super important is to wear what you like and to be different. I try my best to stay away from trends, my goal is to invest in pieces that will never go out of style and that I can pass down to my daughter or niece. Trends come and go... it’s best to have something that will be in your closet to pass down. Create history with it!”

What is the most fabulous thing in your closet?

BlueLillyPad: “My daughter calls me the “CRAZY BAG LADY!” I have a fun collection of purses. They are so unique, fun, and artistic. I pride myself on having a great bag collection, so that when I go out I get many compliments. Interesting hand bags are great conversation starters!”

Will you be watching any virtual fashion week shows? If so, which ones are you most excited to watch?

BlueLillyPad: “ I will be catching up on all the show details through Vogue’s Youtube!”

Do you think the future of fashion week is virtual, or do you see a return to a smaller scale fashion week in the future?

BlueLillyPad: “Honestly with so many influencers, creatives, photographers, designers, and so many talented individuals, I feel that social media is becoming its own fashion show, even magazine. Which is so mind blowing. It has evolved so much.”

You’ve been an activist for some time, what advice do you have for the newest wave of activists?

BlueLillyPad: “Stand up and speak up. Be kind and know the law, especially in your community.”

You’ve started juicing for breakfast and dinner, how is that going?

BlueLillyPad: First 3 days were insane, but now I usually juice in mornings to afternoon and a light dinner. I have lost weight, and I feel more sensitive and calm.

What inspired you to juice?

BlueLillyPad: Due to this pandemic. I honestly had so much anxiety, anger, and I was unable to sleep. Now, thanks to juicing, I feel a sense of connectivity to the world and have had the best sleep!

Speaking of juicing, you are also a plant based foodie. How did your plant based journey begin?

BlueLillyPad: Started at 26, when I was eating chicken and it was aging me. I was losing my hair, and it was the darkest moment of my life. My mom helped me do a detox with vegan-raw foods and it changed my life! Due to my iron deficiency, I had to put fish in my diet but I only eat it about 1-2 times a month. I feel amazing. All about balance!

What is your current fave plant based recipe?

BlueLillyPad: I just learned how to make vegetable rolls (sushi) OMG! I made the rolls with avocado, Persian cucumbers, carrots and spinach. I am so addicted! I also made Kimchi.. I love it together!

Anything else you’d like to share?

BlueLillyPad: “ I am thinking in the near future on creating 5 mins videos on how to make plant based food! I enjoy cooking and would love to share my creations!”
