HOW TO: Homemade Rose Water Toner Recipe
HOW TO:
Homemade Rose Water Toner
Every time I grocery shop I like to pick up a bouquet of flowers. They’re often hydrangeas, daisies, or roses. (Some of my favs)! Trader Joe’s has the best prices and quality, so even on a college budget a little extra treat doesn’t hurt a thing! Having flowers in your apartment or dorm not only freshens up an entire room, but (depending on the type of flower) you can create your own toner water for a fraction of the cost. The roses pictured above were the donors of some exquisite petals that were used to make this week’s toner batch!
If you’re interested in creating your own homemade rose water tonic here’s how…
INGREDIENTS:
Freshly picked rose petals, about one to two handfuls will do
(Often best to select these earlier on in the day, as roses are more fragrant in the morning/cooler temperatures)
Distilled water
Kitchen kettle (or a small stove top pot)
Glass pyrex bowl with lid (or your own substitute version of this, a glass bowl and a stove top pot lid can suffice)
Tongs
Repurposed spray bottle / container
PREP:
Boil water in kettle or stove top pot
When the water reaches its boiling point, change the heat setting to low or turn the kettle off and let stand for 15-20 minutes
Place rose petals in glass bowl
Pour water over them
Cover and steep the petals until the liquid is completely cool
Remove rose petals from water (you may opt to skip this step and keep some in the liquid, if you would like)
Pour the liquid into the spray bottle / container and store in the fridge for 3-6 months
ENJOY:
You can add a splash of witch hazel or green tea (when the liquid is completely cool, prior to pouring it into its new container) for a more astringent effect
You can add a splash of aloe vera (when the liquid is completely cool, prior to pouring it into its new container) for a more soothing effect
The options are really limitless, it’s all up to you!
Use this as you would any store bought version!
