Happy Holidays 2019!

Merry Christmas (to those who are celebrating) and Happy Holidays to all! May you know love, peace, joy, wonder, and beauty this holiday season and always. Please remember that love is all you need; especially for those of us that may be sacrificing or struggling during this time. Always remember that you matter and the world is a better place because of you!

Today is a day where I feel exceptionally grateful to be alive; and for loved ones. It is a time for memories and tradition; new and old a like. Currently I am cuddled up with my pup Alpha, reminiscing on my usual Christmas scene. It is where we are nestled upon a snowy hill in a quaint century old residence in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with familiar faces abound. This is my “adoptive” family’s home. It is where I always feel the most comfortable at any time of year, but there is something truly remarkable about being home during the holidays that ignites the fondest memories. The fire Alpha and I snuggle before could never warm a spirit so brightly.

Other than the elements that comprise the facade and design of the building of the home; it is when one opens the wreath adorned door that the senses are tingling. The welcoming presence of the moment is undeniable. Upon entering, one is greeted by walls adorned by an array of visual art. Hand rendered by the hostesses father, some were developed in oil paint where each line and curve upon the canvas is tangible. This feast of the senses is a tradition in its own right; a way to pay homage to those before us. It is only the aromatic zest of the crackling fire, roasted turkey, and roars of laughter that may sway one away from lingering in the foyer. This scene conjures so much sentiment, as it is where you will typically find all of us at complete ease. Friends, family, neighbours, and new friends; restful in our opportunity to share stories from the bygone year, relate to one another, and dine together on a locally sustained menu lovingly created by our beloved mumma. In this moment, our similarities and differences unite us. It always feels as if the roof could peel off at any moment. The radiation of all our combined essence emitted to the entire world; a shining beacon anchoring the city. There is no where else that is quite like it, and any time that I find myself away for the holidays, I close my eyes and picture a little piece of heaven…

I am so grateful to have these memories and traditions. I miss this part of my family terribly! Some of our other traditions include: mimosas in the morning, dancing around the Christmas tree in Danish tradition, snowboarding on Boxing Day, and rice pudding where whomever retrieves the almond wins a prize. (I won last year and received a bounty of chocolates, it was the best)!

Here are some of the sights of our Christmas together, there’s no place like home:
