Lifestyle Menswear Photoshoot Inspired by James Bond | Fashion Styling | Shaken Not Stirred

If you’re here it’s because you want to see a lifestyle menswear photoshoot, right?

Right!

This project was created for one of my classes this semester. My professor challenged our class to create something new for ourselves. I don’t like to stand on ceremony, so I set about creating a lifestyle menswear concept.

I have a lot of experience creating editorials, and they are my strong suit, but I want to experiment and evolve.

My concept is based on the James Bond 007 film franchise.

I was listening to Nancy Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice" song and remembered that it is from a Bond film (another notable mention is "Live and Let Die” by Paul McCartney and Wings and most recently, Billie Eilish in “No Time to Die”). So, I started looking over contemporary and retro Bond advertisements, which created a wormhole of about four hours consuming information related to the literature, films, music, controversies, and advertising that has been created over numerous generations based on this enthralling character. Where else can you find such a melting pot of content? As we know, representation is essential to our development as a society, and with Daniel Craig (swoon) leaving Bond's Tom Ford suit behind, there is tremendous interest in who will play Bond next and if they will add diversity and inclusion to the iconic special agent.

Mood board by me!

Enter my vision -- I styled the "next" James Bond and what I think he looks like for this era through an advertising lens featuring Gordon's Gin. James Bond's quintessential cocktail is the Vesper Martini which is famously made with Gordon's since 1953. I also listened to WGSN's podcast on "Challenging Masculinities: Redefining Identities" which focused on the fluidity of gender, especially masculinity, to formulate solid styling ideas on what an alpha male like James Bond feels like for the present and future.

Here is the imagery/presentation that was conceived through my inspiration. I hope that you enjoy it.

The Gordon’s Gin faux advertisement was created with a mid-century aesthetic in mind. A lot of “golden age” Gordon’s adverts were utilized to create this mock-up!

It was tremendously tough finding a model for this shoot. After multiple cancellations and days of scurrying around sourcing items for different people, I was finally able to land the right look and feel. How do you like my first foray into lifestyle menswear visuals? Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts. The comments are open, as always, and DMs on social media are always answered. You are welcome here!

Have you seen No Time to Die yet? I just saw it in the cinema and am pleased with my sartorial choices for this fascinating character. I can’t wait to post more of my work and research more concepts! Thank you.
